Things settle down

New job seems to be working out. Still a lot of rough spots but it will settle in.

For the first time in my working life I have weekends consistently off. Took me no time in coming up with ways to use the time but thats a subject for another day.

I still don't have faith in it though - life has taught me that much. Consequently I retain a one day a week schedule with my old company so I have an escape route. That one day a week is at a medical center in Van Nuys.

I had noticed that there were around four cats that I would see running around from 1 to 5 AM. I finally remembered to bring them something. Around 1 Am I put a plate of "Friskies Gravy Sensations" out next to the dumpsters I had seem them using as a hiding place.

At 3 Am I saw that 80% of the food had been eaten - I'm guessing one cat found it and ate their fill.

At 4 AM I looked at the plate again. It honestly looked like I had just taken it out of the package - it was that clean. I even put it back in my car for next week.

I now know what to do with any food I buy that my own 4 cats don't like. These guys are not picky.

When it rains it pours

Good or bad, apparently.

I went back into the security guard field in October, which is about 8 months ago. I went to work for a low end no benefits company that at least promised me 40 hours a week of work at a regular schedule.

About four months later they moved me to a post in Hollywood as a result of my experience (from other jobs). It was 22 miles a day more driving, I lost weekends off and the job was a lot harder and occasionally dangerous. I eventually went to a lower paying job here in Santa Clarita to get away from it.

Friday two weeks ago the original company offered me a raise and a move to a medical center in Van Nuys, not only the best post they have put me on so far, but the highest paying as well.

Friday last week, I got a call from another company offering me an even better pay rate for a job here in town.

Today I got yet another call from another company for a job here in town, a wierd schedule, but this time from one (of only three) companies that give their employees a full benefits package. It would be the same pay and benefits I had with Staples when I was full time.

This is literally the first time in my live that I have ever been in a position to turn down an offer for a good job.

Latest development on Phones

Turns out there is an android app that lets google voice take over the phone. Even works on a tablet.

So forget previous post - my android tablet & phone are now both completely functional one number smartphones - still provided I am within reach of wifi, which I usually am.

Still have the original ralphs grocery cell phone for when I am actually mobile - which is not very often these days.

Android Phones

I had gotten an android for my birthday and immediately wondered how I had ever gotten by without it.

later due to a hiccup in the home cash flow the phone got cut off because I couldn't pay the bill for it. However even now that I have the money to turn it back on - I may not.

With the original walmart family mobile chi[p still in it, the phone gave an error whenever it was powered on, and so was useless. However - I still had the original standard T-Mobile sim card that came with the phone. Since the Walmart chip was now no good to anybody for anything, I put the originally supplied chip in.

The phone now thinks it is brand new out of the box, and the WiFi turned back on.

And so Skype once again works. So essentially as long as I am in range of WiFi, it essentially still works as a phone. For free.

Last element - Skype predates the current SMS message system and so while voice calls are free - SMS messages are not. So - I sighed up for anaother free service called textfree and use that.

As long as am within wifi range of somewhere, thsi all works. And at home and at both jobs this is usually the case. Only drawback is that my voice only number cannot recieve text (so its like a landline) and my text number cannot receive voice calls unless Ipay, so I have two different numbers

So its
661-347-1137 Voice
661-360-1237 SMS

My first Helicopter

Actually the first time I was involved in summoning an LAPD airship. The club across the street emptied a hooker fight that drifted up the street and eventually went into our parking garage. Torn nails bloody faces and all.

Later as an aftershow three other hookers were being cursed at from a guy in a 20 year old SUV who had apparently started laughing at him after they left the club and saw what he had for a car.

The travelling phone numbers

[livejournal.com profile] martes and I each have our own phone numbers.  They began life as POTS lines, became. Vonage numbers, moved again to a different VOIP provider (phonepower) that cost even less, briefly became Tmobile cell phones (a necessary intermediate step) and finally became google voice numbers.

Bottom line after all that is we now have free phone service.   And you can text both numbers now.

I wonder how much of my friends list is still actually there

Its extensive - like 200 people or so, yet I only see about a half dozen active ones on here. Maybe a few more doing twitter roboposting.

I wonder if they have gone to Facebook, twitter (where I would never find them) or have just stopped communicating. I don't think LIvejournal is attracting a lot of new people - when I joined a decade ago it ws the major platform but thats long since true. but I have over a decade of personal history in here and efforts to export the journal have failed, so I'm still here.

I'm more active on Twitter just due to how mobile I am at my present employment - and my tweets mostly do NOT repeat here anymore.
