martes liked to go to. It was something of a hole in the wall - a small store but packed with books, and with a talent for getting big name authors to show up for book signings. We went there today and the store was completely empty. Gone.
Gone online, I am told. Good luck competing with Amazon. And the book signings will have to be done at some other location now.
I think this was the last of the small independant bookstores. Valencia had had such a store but it closed soon after the Barnes and Noble was built.
