custer: (BS1)
Since Anthrocon and Comicon are on the same weekend this year, we will not be going to Anthrocon. Instead we will be taking a valation somewhere else. Location not yet determined.

Time frame somewhere in May. This will be the first van trip in about three years. Too long, but when I was unemployed I couldn't consider such a trip.

I am looking forward to two things. One is the trip itself, the other is that I have decided that after we return from this trip it will finally again be new kitten time. It will be difficult to replace Ashley though. She was a very special kitten I got at a particular point in my life, but all things end, and life must go on.

1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)

I remember watching the funeral on TV. I was not old enough to understand what I was looking at though.

2. First man steps on the Moon (6/11/69)

In grade school, sitting in a large auditorium, watching the event on one of three B&W TV sets set up for the purpose.

3. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)

I had been an Air Force officer for exactly three days.

4. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)

I was in Los Alamitos working at my first Army Reserve unit. My ham radio antenna picked up interferance to the effect of "space shuttle blowing up" so I turned on the set and found out.

5. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)

Don't remember. I don't care about San Francisco.

6. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989):

U.S. Army Captain, late of Special Forces, but not yet assigned to the unit which must not be named.

7. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)

At that same unit, watching it on TV. Got a medal for being in that unit and watching it on TV while not actually participating in any event related to it.

8. When OJ Simpson was chased in his white Bronco (6/17/1994)

At the same army unit, watching him drive by. No shit.

9. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)

Me and Roz were in Cleveland, preparing to get married on the 22nd. We heard about it while were in the county courthouse getting the marriage license.

10. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)

At home in Valencia. Roz's mother was visiting, and we watched the news about it on TV.

11. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)

Home, oblivious to the consequences. I had voted for Gore.

12. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)

No clue, I am unfamiliar with the event.

13. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)

Happily snoring away in bed. I didn't find out about it until 9AM PST when [livejournal.com profile] martes found out about it from listening to Howard Stern. By that time it was already over. My current employment is a direct result of this event.
